2008-May 12 *KendallWatch Meeting Report
Minutes
The meeting was called to order at 7:10 PM with 25 people in attendance.
Veronica introduced the Core Group of KendallWatch and welcomed KendallWatch members and first time visitors. A warm welcome was extended to guest speakers Susan Sloan with the Whatcom County Health Department and Deputy Nyhus and his K-9 partner Hawkeye.
Veronica stated that KendallWatch is a non-political not for profit community action group and read the KendallWatch mission statement.
Everyone was urged to visit the KendallWatch web site @ www.KendallWatch.us., as it is updated frequently. Members were asked to update any new email addresses.
Kathy read the minutes from the April 14th, 2008 meeting. Veronica gave the Treasurer’s report.
Joyce gave a report on the May 6th, 2008 County Council Meeting and announced the EDA meeting on May 21st, 2008 and encouraged members to attend. She also gave a report on the success of the Kendall Watch Youth Bike Rodeo and thanked all the wonderful volunteers for their time and efforts.
Kathy reported on the KendallWatch litter patrol held on April 20th, 2008.
Susan Sloan with the Whatcom County Health Department announced another Community Conversations workshop to be held at Nooksack Valley High School, Tuesday May 13th, 2008. Possible topics for discussion include: healthcare access and affordability, nutrition, oral health, emergency preparedness plans for 2010 Olympics, obesity or any other health issue. She encouraged members to attend and generate ideas about how to make Whatcom County a healthier place.
Deputy Nyhus with the Whatcom County Sheriffs Department spoke about working with his 4 1/2 year old Belgium shepherd K-9 partner Hawkeye. A very interactive demonstration was given outside.
Veronica reminded KendallWatch members to be diligent in reporting any suspicious activity or persons during the upcoming summer months. KendallWatch will resume monthly meetings in September 2008.
Norm presided over the 50/50 drawing. Our portion of $5.50 went to the general fund with Norma donating her winnings of $5.50 into the general fund. Thanks Norma!
