2009-September 14th *KendallWatch Meeting Report
Minutes
Joyce read the minutes from the May, 2009 meeting then Veronica then gave the Treasurer’s report .
Veronica announced that we would be raffling a prize at each meeting as a way of raising money for KendallWatch and this would replace the 50/50 drawing.
Norma announced the upcoming Litter Patrol to be held on Saturday, September 26th, 2009.
Veronica then went around the room and asked for people to state whether they had skills or hobbies which would be beneficial for assisting the community in case of an emergency.
Veronica congratulated the recent graduates of CERT and thanked those who volunteered as victims. A new course will start in the spring of 2010 provided we have15 participants in order to have a class in Kendall.
Joyce then went over the accomplishments of KendallWatch since it’s inception.
Veronica announced that Kathy Warner was stepping down as secretary of KendallWatch after having temporarily volunteered for the past 2 ½ years. It was asked whether someone would be willing to take that position.with Cathy Dix volunteering to take the minutes starting October 12th, 2009. Thanks Cathy.
Deputy Karb then talked about what “suspicious behavior" would be.
He used the example of a hot, sunny day and someone dressed all in black or wearing a trench coat. He said that basically it is anything that looks our of the ordinary for your area.
He stated that members can communicate with him via e-mail or by leaving a phone message regarding non-time sensitive information, You need to call 911 if there is a crime afoot or suspicious activity.
Report descriptions:
- Look for things that people can’t change immediately (skin or hair color, tattoos, scars, piercings).
- Note times, proximaties, and locations.
- Note the make and model of a vehicle as well as any unique features (ski rack, window chips, body damage).
Graffiti has been an issue lately, as well as DUIs and drinking issues.
There is also a problem with non-street legal vehicles in Peaceful Valley. Speed violations are the only infractions that the Sheriff’s office can enforce in that area. However, wreckless driving, DUIs are also enforceable.
The drug situation in this area has not changed a whole lot. We aren’t dealing with major Meth labs. There has been a rise in heroin usage in Glacier and the Maple Falls area.We have mainly petty dealers and usage crime.
Deputy Karb will try to bring in statistics for the November meeting. He stated that crime has increased throughout the county.
Norma stated that she hadn’t heard from Sam Crawford recently concerning the No Shooting Zone proposal for the Columbia Valley UGA. Other agencies apparently needed to sign on to it. Deputy Karb said he could talk to those agencies to fast track the issue.
The drawing took place with Joyce taking home a gift.
Our 6th Anniversary cake was enjoyed by all.
