Child abuse numbers in decline

A new federal report shows the rate of child abuse in the US dipped in 2008 to its lowest level since 1990. The annual report from the Department of Health and Human Services says the estimated number of victimized children had dropped to 772,000 in 2008 from 903,000 in 2006.

Carmen Nazario, an assistant secretary for children and families at the Department of Health and Human Services, said she was encouraged but wary. "Too many children still suffer from abuse and neglect, and we have not yet experienced the full impact from the economic situation." Carmen Nazario said.

From KendallWatch: Makes one wonder how many cases of abuse and neglect are NOT reported.

Please take the time to report child, teen or elder abuse or neglect.

Go with your gut feeling!
