2010 - February 8th *KendallWatch Meeting Report

Minutes

The meeting was brought to order at 7:05 P.M., with 26 people in attendance. Our guest speaker Deputy Ben Wood was welcomed as well as KendallWatch members and first time visitors.

The Mission Statement and minutes of the last meeting were read and the Treasurer's report given.

Unfortunately, Deputy Jason Karb could not attend due to illness.

Joyce made the following announcements:

1.  2010 will be her last year of heading up the Youth Bike Rodeo and she is hopeful that someone or some organization will take over this annual event.
   2. The 6th Annual Youth Bike Rodeo will be held on May 15th, 2010 from 11 A.M. to 3 P.M.. There is a need for volunteers for the event. A sign-up sheet was made available.
   3. Whatcom County Council will vote on the Septic Tank Inspection issue February 23rd, 2010.

Trish announced that she had recently passed the "Train the Trainer Course" of CERT (Citizen's Emergency Response Training" and that she was anxious to instruct a course in late March, 2010 provided she could get 15 people who are interested. The cost of the course is $50 which includes 27 hours of instruction, manuals, work book, all safety gear, etc

Walter, the leader of the Kendall CERT Team mentioned that there would be a CERT meeting for all certified members in March, 2010, time and place to be announced later. A couple of other courses were noted.

Norma mentioned the Urban Growth Area and that a Litter Patrol would be arranged soon.

Veronica mentioned that the Whatcom County Humane Society have been very active in our area and had responded to our concerns about dogs running loose and the wellbeing of neglected dogs and other animals. Animal Control Officer Carlisle mentioned the importance of having dogs and cats spayed or neutered and that there is a leash law - that will be enforced.

Veronica introduced Deputy Ben Wood, the newly appointed Crime Prevention Officer of the Whatcom County Sheriff's Office Deputy Wood mentioned his education and prior experience in law enforcement . Door to door scams regarding magazine sales, Haiti relief and the importance of having readable house numbers from the street were mentioned.

The next meeting is scheduled for March 8th , 2010.

Thanks were given to Pat & Dave for making coffee and Norm for putting up signs.

The raffle gift was won by Don.

Meeting was adjourned at 8:20 P.M.
